General Video Content

Ever wondered how creators add fun doodles, handwritten notes, or highlights to their videos? It’s an easy and effective way to emphasize key points, add personality, or even teach on-screen—without needing complicated design software.

With the Detail app, you can quickly draw and annotate directly on your videos using just your iPhone or iPad. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open your video in Detail

You can either record your video in Detail or import an existing video from your camera roll:

  1. Open the Detail app.

  2. Either import a video from Photos or a URL, open a project, or record a new project

Step 2: Choose where to add your drawing

Overlays has moved: You can now find Overlays (draw, text, and images) in left menu in an open project

  • Scrub through your video timeline to find the exact moment you want to add a drawing.

  • In the left menu, Tap Overlay, then tap Draw.

Step 3: Start drawing

Now comes the fun part—adding your doodles!

  • Select a marker style.

  • Tap the color wheel to choose your color.

  • Use your finger or stylus to draw, highlight, or write directly on the screen.

Step 4: Adjust the timing

Once your drawing is on the screen, decide how long it should stay visible:

  • Drag the duration slider right to keep it on screen longer.

  • Drag it left to shorten the time it appears.

Bonus Tip: Place your drawing behind you

Want your drawing to appear behind you instead of on top of you?

  • Tap the mask button to send it to the background.

  • Resize and reposition your drawing for the perfect look.

Step 5: Plan your annotations for better workflow

For a smoother editing process, make note of where you want to add drawings before starting:

  • Option 1: Play the video and write down timestamps where you want annotations.

  • Option 2: Use Detail’s built-in transcript editor:

    • Tap the pencil button to open the text editor view.

    • Scroll through your video transcript to find the section where you want to add a drawing.

    • Tap the text, return to the preview, and start drawing!

That’s it!

You’ve successfully added drawings to your video—all without complicated software! Whether you're creating tutorials, adding personal touches, or emphasizing key points, the Detail app makes it easy.
