You don’t need a complicated setup to start live streaming, just a few key devices and the right app. In this guide, we’ll walk through how to create a streaming studio that works for gaming, tutorials, or any live content.
What You’ll Need
iPhone
iPad
HDMI gaming source (console, Apple TV, or similar)
Capture card (like the Elgato HD60 or similar)
Tripod or mount for your iPhone
The Detail app installed on both devices
Step 1: Connect Your Devices
Mount your iPhone on a tripod or stand.
Open the Detail app on your iPhone and iPad.
On both devices, start a new project and connect them wirelessly, your iPad will now show your iPhone’s camera feed.
Step 2: Set Up Your Gaming Source
Connect your gaming console or Apple TV to your capture card via HDMI.
Connect the capture card output to your monitor or TV.
Plug the capture card into your iPad so Detail can capture the gameplay feed.
Now you can create a split-screen view with your iPhone camera on one side and the gameplay feed on the other.
Step 3: Go Live
On your iPad in Detail, tap the 3 dots on top and then Live Streaming.
Free version: stream to one platform.
Pro version: stream to two platforms at once (YouTube, Twitch, Instagram Live, custom RTMP).
Paste your stream key from your chosen platform.
Tap Go Live. You’re streaming.
Step 4: Customize Your Layout
To make it look more like a gaming stream:
Tap Layout and choose Picture-in-Picture or any style you like.
Set your gameplay to full screen with your camera masked as a smaller overlay.
Move your camera frame to a corner that doesn’t block gameplay.
Step 5: Record While Streaming
You can record your stream at the same time:
Tap Record while live.
Save your content to repurpose for YouTube uploads, TikTok clips, or highlight reels.
Why This Setup Works
Fast setup: connect in minutes, no complicated wiring.
Flexible: stream gameplay, live shows, or product demos.
Professional look: split-screen, picture-in-picture, and masking options.
Dual output: live stream and record at the same time.
